The Power of the pause

Can you believe we're already halfway through the year? Six months behind us. Six months ahead. The year seems to be moving at warp speed, and it's so easy to keep chasing the next thing without ever stopping to notice where we are, how far we've come, or how we're actually feeling.
This year, I consciously planned time out in June. That wasn't by accident. It's something I've learned to do because I now recognise the signs when I need to pause. For years, I would simply keep pushing through, believing I could keep going regardless. But I've come to realise that when I ignore those signals, I become grouchy, tired and physically just a bit "off". My body and mind are asking for something different.
June gave me exactly what I needed.
First, I had the privilege of holding space for others at my Solstice Radiance Retreat. Watching people slow down, breathe more deeply and reconnect with themselves was a beautiful reminder of why these moments matter. Then, shortly afterwards, I became the one being held as I attended a yoga retreat myself. Both experiences reminded me of something we so easily forget.

Taking a pause isn't a luxury. It's a necessity.
It's how we come back to ourselves.
It's where we rest.
It's where we reset.
It's where we reconnect.
Sometimes we think we need to keep pushing harder to make progress. Yet, more often than not, the clarity we're searching for arrives when we stop striving long enough to hear ourselves again.
Of course, a pause doesn't have to mean a long weekend away or a yoga retreat.
Sometimes it's as simple as taking three slow, intentional breaths before your next meeting. Closing the laptop and actually taking your lunch break. Going for a walk without your phone. Prioritising the yoga class you've been talking yourself out of all week. Sitting quietly with a cup of tea in the garden. Reading a few pages of a book.
Whatever it is for you, make it something that brings you back to yourself.
The pause isn't about escaping your life; it's about creating enough space within it to remember who you are beneath all the doing. When we give ourselves permission to stop, even for a few moments, we often return with more patience, more perspective and more energy than we had before.
As we stand at this halfway point in the year, perhaps this is your invitation too.
Before you rush into the next six months, take a moment.
Take a breath.
Ask yourself:
What do I need more of?
What can I let go of?
What would help me feel more like me again?
You don't need to wait until your next holiday or retreat.
Start with five minutes.
Do whatever helps you come back to yourself. Because the pause isn't wasted time.
Maybe the pause is where the magic happens.
What does your pause look like?
